OUR JOURNEY WITH BIRAC
Since Inception, KIIT TBI has adhered to a philosophy of offering comprehensive assistance to nurture and expand early-stage startups or aspiring entrepreneurs. The biotechnology sector of KIIT TBI’s portfolio got strengthen up when Biotechnology Industrial Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), DBT, GoI extended its support in establishing its globally competent bioincubator facilities at KIIT TBI under the BIRAC BioNEST scheme in 2011. KIIT TBI’s selection as one of the implementing partners for various flagship programs of BIRAC such as Social Innovation Immersion Program (SIIP), Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG), BIRAC SEED fund, BIRAC LEAP fund was an important milestone in strengthening its Biotech-led innovations. Till date more than 232 innovations has been supported which led to create more than 112+ IPs, 60+ products commercialization, INR 100 + Cr of external fund raise and most importantly more than 1000+ job creations. In addition, KIIT TBI’s recognition as one of the SPARSH centers of BIRAC has played pivotal role in supporting innovations which have immense social and economic impact.
Furthermore, with a vision to promote regional innovations to solve problems & build the capacity of the local incubation ecosystem at E & NE, BIRAC regional Center for Technology promotion (BRTC) was established at KIIT TBI. Until now more than 5K+ aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators from northeast have found a new zeal to convert their ideas into impactful ventures. To further propel the commercialization of the innovative research discoveries, KIIT TBI Technology Transfer Office (TTO) was set up in the year of 2019 under the National Biopharma Mission of industry & academia.The 13 years journey of KIIT TBI BioNEST Bioincubator has been very progressive, and we are hopeful that the coming years will be as promising and productive with the support form BIRAC and its stakeholders towards the advancement of the next generation of biotech innovators.
