our story
KIIT-Technology Business Incubator (KIIT- TBI) is a non-profit incubator set up in 2009 as the Sec (8) company at KIIT University, Odisha. It is generously supported by various Government bodies such as DST, BIRAC, MeitY, MSME, TDB, DFID, UK, Startup India & Startup Odisha, and also various industries to boost the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country.
It has nurtured over 380 startups including more than 130 women-led startups. KIIT-TBI has all together enabled the creation of over 5000 technical jobs, onboarded 50+ industries, and promoted 200+ manufacturing startups in Biotechnology, Electronics, Digital health, Industrial Biotechnology, Cleantech, Food & Neutraceuticals, Wate to Value, Defence and Aerospace, etc. In 2020, it has been recognized as the Centre of Excellence in incubation by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India.
KIIT-TBI has expanded its presence by establishing a BIRAC Regional Techno-entrepreneurship Centre (BRTC), by BIRAC-DBT, Government of India to promote startups in East and North East State of India. Nearly 50 startups of KIIT-TBI have raised follow-on Angel and private investment funding of Rs 1,300+ crore and thus scaling new heights. In the last 13 years of its journey, KIIT-TBI has built a holistic ecosystem to nurture deep-tech and social startups from ideation to growth stage including nurturing 20+ rural manufacturing clusters in various East and North East states of India. With the required technical infrastructure and strong mentoring support, KIIT-TBI is marching ahead to build international collaboration to support cross-border partnerships. Recently, KIIT TBI is recognized as the Defense Incubator by the Department of Défense Production, Ministry of Defence, Government of India (DIO-IdeX) to promote the co-creation of innovative defense technologies.
KIIT TBI’s social vertical incubates social impact businesses/startups that have ideas and technologies to solve social/environmental problems. Social & CSR vertical works on diversity and endeavors to promote entrepreneurs from marginalized sections of society such as SC/ST/Women & Farmer entrepreneurs. The vertical is also actively involved in propelling grass root innovations and deploying technologies in the remotest villages, generating alternate likelihoods and ensuring rural development and inclusive socio-economic development goals.
KIIT Technology Business Incubator won the National Award for Technology Business Incubation for the year 2017 from the Union Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and has been awarded National IPR Award 2021 under the category of Best Incubator for nurturing the IP, instituted by the Office of the Controller General of patents, design and trademarks (CGPDTM), DPIIT, Govt of India. Recently, KIIT TBI has been ranked 1 in the incubator list in the public sector.
KIIT-TBI is now building a platform to support manufacturing hubs to propel the startup ecosystem in Odisha and beyond. Very recently, KIIT-TBI became the anchor organization to set up the Bhubaneswar City Knowledge Innovation Cluster Foundation (BCKIC), an initiative by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, set up under the direction of the PM-STIAC to seamlessly connect research institutions, academia, industry, and cooperate towards the creation of a Hub and Spoke Model, actively facilitating innovation and knowledge exchange.

In 2020, it was recognized as the Centre of Excellence in incubation by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India. KIIT Technology Business Incubator won the National Award for Technology Business Incubation for the year 2017 from the Union Minister for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and has been awarded with National IPR Award 2021 under the category of Best Incubator for nurturing the IP instituted by the Office of the Controller General of patents, design and trademarks (CGPDTM), DPIIT, Govt of India. KIIT TBI has received the best incubator both in the public and private sectors by a survey conducted by BioSpectrum. KIIT-Technology Business Incubator (KIIT-TBI), the innovation hub of KIIT, has been honored with the prestigious ‘Incubator of the Year 2023′ Award by the Asian Association of Business Incubation (AABI) in Bangkok, Thailand. KIIT-TBI is a strong promoter of manufacturing start-ups and aims to establish a manufacturing Hub in the state of Odisha. With a built-up space of 130,000 sq. ft, KIIT-TBI has a lot to offer in terms of infrastructure from office space, seating facilities, and equipment to testing and prototyping labs. It has a dedicated 40,000 sq. ft of premier laboratory space offering a range of lab facilities and services to prospective start-ups and innovators for building ideas from the ground up with a minimum capital requirement. In the last 15 years of its journey, KIIT-TBI has built a holistic ecosystem to nurture deep-tech and social startups from ideation to growth stage including nurturing 20+ rural manufacturing clusters in various East and North East states of India. With the required technical infrastructure and strong mentoring support, KIIT-TBI is marching ahead to build international collaboration to support cross-border partnerships.
